WOICE OF WARSAV On the Rocks 8 March 2006 The exhibition [Culture] Icebreaker will be on in Warsaw until the first thaw. All those interested still have a chance to see it because winter is still going strong. "Since we have had a harsh winter we have decided to put an end to it. In order to do so, we need an Icebreaker, a powerful machine for crushing ice. We have decided to take up the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN). From the 30th story, we will send a signal heralding the end of winter," the creators of the exhibition declared during the opening of the exhibition. Everything started Feb. 24 with an event in the PKiN Viewing Area on the 30th floor. The exhibition of ice sculptures with Łukasz Oganowski's photographs embedded inside them was organized by the Art Animacje association and the Ice Project group known in Warsaw for their winter installation on Nowy Sęwiat Street. Abstract ice sculptures with photographs, rose petals, leaves and other items stuck inside are arranged in the Viewing Area among deck chairs. "We wanted to play on contradictions: winter-spring, feminine-masculine, water-ice-air," the artists said. During the opening-day event, guests had an opportunity to sculpt ice under the guidance of artists Sylwia Tyszkiewicz and Agata Szab?owska. Łukasz Oganowski was born in Mazuria, a region where his love affair with water began. The photographic project Mazuria Under Ice is the product of his passion.
